UN Panel Accuses Israel of Torture Policy

The UN committee on torture has reported evidence of Israel’s “de facto state policy of organised and widespread torture,” particularly against Palestinians detained since the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023. The committee highlighted severe conditions in Israeli detention centers, including deprivation of food and water, physical and sexual violence, and the unlawful detention of vulnerable groups. It criticized Israel for failing to investigate torture allegations and called for accountability. Israel dismissed these claims as “disinformation,” while the committee emphasized that international law prohibits torture under any circumstances.
