The UK government plans to exclude under-22s with long-term illnesses or disabilities from claiming a health top-up on universal credit, saving money that will be reinvested into young people’s training. Work Secretary Liz Kendall announced the shake-up of the benefits system to promote fairness, but disability campaigners have criticized the “dangerous cuts”. The proposals also include raising the age at which people can claim the adult disability benefit, known as the personal independence payment (Pip), and are open for feedback until the end of June.
