A 23-year-old Mexican social media influencer, Valeria Marquez, was shot dead while live streaming on TikTok in Guadalajara, as reported by the state prosecutor’s office.

The assailant reportedly entered her beauty salon and fired a gun at her, with the motive still unidentified.

The investigation is being pursued as a femicide, reflecting the alarming prevalence of gender-based violence in Mexico, where the UN states that ten women or girls are murdered daily by partners or family members.
