South Sudan Army Chief Orders Soldiers to End Rebellion in Seven Days
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The head of South Sudan’s armed forces has ordered soldiers to “crush the rebellion” in the east within seven days, as the SPLA-IO has captured areas in Jonglei state, threatening Bor, a strategic town near Juba. SPLA-IO leader Riek Machar, facing serious charges, remains a focal point of tension, especially after President Kiir dismissed his wife from the government. The UN has called for immediate cessation of hostilities amid fears of escalating violence and potential civil war. Reinforcements, including Ugandan troops, are preparing to confront SPLA-IO forces, raising concerns for civilian safety.
