The City of Ekurhuleni rejected the Gauteng Department of Education’s request for more time to pay over R50m in outstanding debt for Section 20 schools in Kwa-Thema, leading to continued disconnection of electricity at affected schools. Concerned parents protested and dismissed learners from all schools, demanding a resolution as the city refuses to reconnect power until the debt is settled. The affected schools include Zimisele, Nkabinde, Muzomsha, Zamani, Ntokozweni, and Tlakula, with hopes for an agreement between the GDE and CoE.
