Three Chinese swindlers, Baodi Wu, 59, Huanyan Chen, 54, and Guoli Liang, 51, were sentenced to prison before deportation for a $100,000 crime spree involving a “blessing scam” targeting vulnerable women in the immigrant communities of Auckland and Christchurch. They were arrested at Auckland airport while attempting to leave New Zealand with $78,000 in cash and stolen items after a three-week holiday. Judge Kirsten Lummis condemned their actions, stating that their behavior was “despicable” and emphasized the need for a stern response to deter similar crimes.
