The Trump administration has imposed additional 34% tariffs on China, bringing the total new levies this year to 54% and the overall tariff rate to 74%, prompting criticism of unilateralism and protectionism from Chinese spokesperson Lin Jian. In addition, Trump closed a trade loophole allowing duty-free entry of low-value packages from China, leading to market turmoil with the FTSE 100 hitting a one-year low and Goldman Sachs raising the chances of a US recession to 45%.
