China and UK restart economic and financial talks after 6-year hiatus

China and Britain resumed economic and financial talks after a six-year hiatus, with British Treasury chief Rachel Reeves leading a delegation to Beijing to meet with Chinese leaders and revive the China-U.K. Economic and Financial Dialogue. The U.K. aims to enhance trade and investment ties with China by addressing barriers faced by British businesses, focusing on areas like sustainable finance, clean energy, and regulatory alignment. The visit comes as part of efforts by the U.K.’s Labour government to strengthen political and economic relations with China, despite concerns over national security and human rights issues raised by some opposition Conservative Party members.
