Taiwanese Men Found to Control Ship Cutting Undersea Cables
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

China has accused two Taiwanese nationals of orchestrating a smuggling operation that involved a vessel damaging subsea cables in February, an incident Taiwan labels as hybrid warfare. The Chinese public security bureau claims the Taiwanese men operated the Hong Tai 58 ship for smuggling frozen goods into China, while Taiwan asserts it was a deliberate act by Beijing to escalate tensions. A Taiwanese court previously sentenced the ship’s Chinese captain for intentionally damaging the cables. Taiwan’s authorities have urged China to provide evidence, criticizing their actions as political manipulation.
