The Shenzhen 8K UHD Video Industry Cooperation Alliance, consisting of over 50 Chinese companies, has introduced a new wired media communication standard called General Purpose Media Interface (GPMI) to support 8K resolution and reduce the number of cables needed for data and power transmission. The GPMI cable comes in two types — Type-B with a proprietary connector and Type-C compatible with USB-C, offering maximum bandwidths of 192 Gbps and 96 Gbps respectively, along with power delivery of up to 480 watts and 240 watts.
