British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s children’s book “Billy And The Epic Escape” has been pulled from sale after criticism from Indigenous Australian groups for perpetuating stereotypes and tropes. The book, published earlier this year, was accused of erasing and trivializing Indigenous experiences. Oliver apologized for causing offense and the publisher, Penguin Random House, agreed to withdraw the book. The controversy highlights the trend of celebrities entering the children’s book market, with Oliver releasing his second children’s book while in Australia promoting his latest recipe book.
