UN chief Guterres says human rights are being suffocated by autocrats and warmongers

In a speech to the Human Rights Council, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern that human rights are being suppressed worldwide by warmongers, a morally bankrupt financial system, leaders demonizing migrants, and voices of division and anger. He called for a permanent cease-fire in Palestine, respect for Congo’s territorial integrity, and proposed new ideas to bring stability and security to Haiti. Despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the council, Guterres highlighted the importance of upholding human rights in a world where they are under attack by those seeking power and profit.
