IPL 2024 Points table: The first round of IPL 2024 matches ended with Gujarat Titans defeating Mumbai Indians in match number 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Shubman Gill’s GT scripted a spectacular come-from-behind win and edged past Hardik Pandya-led MI by 6 runs.
Gujarat Titans made 168 while batting first. Led by Sai Sudharsan’s45 and Rahul Tewatia’s finishing touches of 22, the hosts reached close to 170. However, they were made to work extremely hard for the defence. Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma had a brilliant outing as he made 43 from 29 balls and held the innings together. Dewald Brevis also complimented him well as he made 46 from 38 balls and was the top-scorer. The two shared a partnership of 77 runs.
However, MI made a mess of the chase in the final five overs. Needing 43 off the last 30 balls and having seven wickets in hand with Brevis well set, Mumbai lost momentum big way and stumbled by losing six wickets in last five overs. They managed to score just 35 off the final five overs.
