South Africa to pursue appeal against Nigerian pastor acquitted of rape

South African authorities plan to pursue legal action against Nigerian televangelist Timothy Omotoso, who was acquitted of rape charges last month and has since left the country. Despite his acquittal, the National Prosecuting Authority intends to appeal the judgment, and if successful, they would seek his extradition based on a treaty with Nigeria. Classified as an “undesirable person,” Omotoso is barred from returning to South Africa for five years, and he had previously faced allegations of sexual assault from young women in his church, including a victim who was 14 at the time.
