Italian journalist and podcaster Cecilia Sala has been released from detention in an Iranian prison and is on a flight back to Italy, following intense diplomatic efforts by Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Sala had been held in solitary confinement in Iran’s Evin prison since December 19, with her release not being attributed to any specific reason. Her arrest came after Italy detailed an Iranian engineer suspected of supplying drone technology used in the death of U.S. soldiers, although Iran did not specify Sala’s alleged violation of their laws.
