WW2 veteran Anne Puckridge, who moved to Canada in 2001, is one of over 453,000 British pensioners living abroad whose pensions are frozen and do not receive annual increases. She has lobbied the government without success and is now urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to end the “brutal” policy. The UK has agreements with some countries to continue increasing pensions, but not with others like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and India. Campaigners argue this creates an injustice, and there is diplomatic pressure for a change in policy. Previous governments have cited cost as a barrier to fully restoring frozen pensions.
