The study published in Environmental Science & Technology shows that California’s Prop 65 law has led many companies to stop using harmful chemicals in their products to avoid cancer warning labels. Almost 80% of companies interviewed reformulated their products to comply with the law, which requires warning labels for chemicals known to cause cancer or reproductive harm. While the law has been effective in reducing exposure to toxic chemicals, there is a need for stronger policies at the federal and state level to regulate the thousands of chemicals on the market.
