Thousands of drug tests conducted by Quest Diagnostics in California prisons last year are suspected to have produced false positives, impacting parole requests for many incarcerated individuals. Despite prison officials being aware of the issue since January, they have not acted to rectify the records or address the consequences faced by the affected individuals, which could number over 5,000 false positives. The tests, intended for monitoring treatment progress, were used by the Board of Parole Hearings, raising concerns about their reliability for life-altering decisions.
