CA/Browser Forum Votes to Shorten Certificate Lifespan

Members of the CA/Browser Forum have unanimously approved a significant reduction in the lifespan of web certificates, decreasing it from one year to 47 days by March 2029, a decision aimed at enhancing web security. This change will be phased in gradually, with intermediate stages reducing the lifespan to 200 days by March 2026 and 100 days by March 2027, compelling enterprise IT to adopt web certificate automation services more aggressively. The initiative, primarily pushed by Apple, is argued to mitigate risks associated with improper validation and misissued certificates.
