Thame WWII hero awarded blue plaque to mark legacy

A blue plaque has been unveiled in Thame, Oxfordshire, to honor John Henry Smythe, known as Johnny, a WWII RAF hero and one of Britain’s first black barristers. After serving as aircrew and enduring 18 months as a POW, he returned to Sierra Leone to become Solicitor General and later Attorney General, contributing significantly to the country’s legal framework.
