Under-performing civil servants could be incentivised to leave jobs

The government plans to incentivize under-performing civil servants to leave their jobs and link top staff pay to performance, as part of wider reforms to reshape the service. Cabinet Office minister Pat McFadden aims to implement a new exit process for low-performing employees and put senior civil servants on development plans, with pay linked to outcomes. The changes are intended to create a more focused and efficient civil service, with a focus on frontline services and digitization, although the civil servants union has criticized the plans as a “retreading of failed ideas.”
