In the west of England, a new national forest called the Western Forest will see the planting of 20 million trees and the creation of 2,500 hectares of new woodland, with a goal of increasing tree cover to 30% in some areas by 2050. The project aims to help meet the UK’s woodland cover target of 16.5% by 2050, with ongoing government funding and support essential for its success. The government has allocated £7.5m for the project over the next five years, with the hope that it will not only benefit the environment but also promote economic growth and create jobs in the region.
