Glasgow tower blocks demolished by controlled explosions

Three 1960s tower blocks in Glasgow’s Wyndford estate were demolished using controlled explosions to make way for nearly 400 new homes, as part of a redevelopment plan by Wheatley Homes housing association. An exclusion zone was set up and nearby residents were evacuated during the operation, with compensation offered for the disruption. The masterplan includes a community hub and 386 affordable rental homes to replace the 600 flats in the high-rise blocks, with residents advised to take precautions against dust and debris.
