Daria Kasatkina has officially switched allegiance from Russia to Australia, citing her criticism of Russia’s LGBTQ+ laws and the war in Ukraine as reasons for her decision. The world number 12, who has been living in Dubai for the past two and a half years, will represent Australia for the first time at the Charleston Open. Kasatkina, the only openly gay woman in the top 100 of singles on the WTA Tour, expressed feeling emotional about the change but stated that she “didn’t have much choice” given the circumstances in her previous country.
