A Chinese paraglider, Peng Yujiang, survived an accidental ascent to 8,500m (27,800ft) above the Qilian mountains due to a rare air current known as “cloud suck” while testing new equipment.
The incident posed significant dangers, including thin oxygen levels and temperatures dropping to -40C, prompting an investigation by Chinese authorities.
As a result of the unauthorized flight, Mr. Peng has been suspended for six months, according to reports from state-run Global Times.
