New research suggests that William Shakespeare’s relationship with his wife Anne Hathaway may have been more positive than previously believed. Historically, it was thought that Shakespeare left Hathaway behind in Stratford-upon-Avon and expressed bitterness towards her by leaving her little in his will. However, a letter fragment addressed to “good Mrs Shakespeare” indicates that they likely lived together in central London during the years 1600-1610, according to Prof Matthew Steggle from the University of Bristol’s Department of English.
