Mother who hid her baby in drawer for years jailed

A mother in Cheshire has been jailed for seven years and six months for extreme neglect after keeping her baby daughter hidden in a drawer for the first three years of her life. The girl, who was severely malnourished and had never known daylight or fresh air, was only discovered when a visitor heard her crying. The mother admitted four charges of child cruelty and the child, who did not respond to her own name when found, had been left alone for long periods without enough food.
