First heat-health alerts issued for 2025 while storms bring flood risk

The first yellow heat-health alerts for 2025 have been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), covering the east of England, London, East Midlands, and south-east England from 21:00 BST on Thursday until 08:00 on Sunday.

Temperatures could reach 30C (86F), leading to thunderstorms with frequent lightning, gusty winds, and torrential rain, potentially causing flash flooding.

This health alert indicates an expected increase in healthcare service use by vulnerable populations, particularly those aged over 65 or with pre-existing health conditions, due to the combination of heat and humidity.
