Who is Mark Carney, Canada’s new PM?
Mark Carney was sworn in as Canada’s prime minister in March following Justin Trudeau’s resignation and secured his position by winning a snap election. Born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Carney has an extensive banking background, notably as the first non-British governor of the Bank of England and previously leading the Bank of Canada during the 2008 financial crisis. Despite being courted by the Liberal Party for a decade, he had never held political office before his recent election as leader.
