Rwanda is in the “early stage” of discussions with the Trump administration regarding the acceptance of migrants deported by the US, as stated by Foreign Affairs Minister Olivier Nduhungireh. The talks are not unprecedented, as Rwanda had previously agreed to accept migrants from the UK, although that scheme was abandoned due to legal challenges after a change in the UK government. Nduhungireh emphasized the Rwandan government’s willingness to assist migrants facing global issues, while noting that the outcome of the US discussions remains uncertain.
