At least 24 people have died in South Korea’s worst wildfires, with most victims in their 60s and 70s and 26 injured, 12 critically. The fires have forced over 23,000 people to evacuate, destroyed 17,000 hectares of forest, and killed 18 within a few days, making it the deadliest wildfire in the country’s history. The fires, fueled by strong winds, have ravaged multiple counties, including Uiseong where a 1,300-year-old temple and national treasures were lost, prompting a national emergency response.
