An unseen script for the classic sitcom Steptoe and Son, intended for Christmas 1963, has been found at the University of York. The show, featuring Harry H. Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell as rag-and-bone men Harold and Albert Steptoe, was immensely popular, attracting over 28 million viewers. Archivists at the Borthwick Institute for Archives believe the script was likely shelved due to time constraints. Gary Brannan, keeper of the archives, emphasized the sketch’s reflection of British culture and its humorous take on Christmas misery.
