Pneumonia caused Ryder to miss Mani’s funeral

Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder missed the funeral of his friend Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield due to a severe case of pneumonia that caused him to collapse. While on tour with his other band, Black Grape, Ryder fell ill but managed to return for the funeral, although he couldn’t attend due to his condition. He described his recovery after taking antibiotics as feeling significantly better. The funeral, held on December 22 at Manchester Cathedral, was attended by hundreds, including notable figures from the British music scene of the 1980s and 90s.
