The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) will expand from 12 to 16 teams starting in 2026, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
Next year’s tournament in Morocco is already underway with 12 teams, while the expansion will necessitate a third qualifying round for 11 nations vying for four spots, reflecting Caf’s commitment to enhancing women’s football and increasing the prize fund to $3.45 million.
