Burkina Faso military dissolves political parties
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Burkina Faso’s Interior Minister Emile Zerbo revealed that the government has dissolved all political parties due to the proliferation of parties leading to divisions and weakened social cohesion. This move comes as the military-led government continues its crackdown on dissent following insurgencies linked to al-Qaeda and ISIL. The country’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore, seized power in a coup in 2022 and has since cut ties with France, turning to Russia for support. Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have formed the Alliance of Sahel States to enhance economic and military cooperation.
