Burkina Faso military and allies accused of civilian abuses

Burkina Faso’s military is accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the ethnic cleansing of Fulani civilians, according to Human Rights Watch. A report details over 1,800 civilian deaths linked to military forces and allied militias between January 2023 and August 2025, with more than 1,200 fatalities attributed to government actions. The report calls for investigations into President Ibrahim Traore and military commanders for potential accountability.
