Brother of shooter arrested after Canada-wide warrant issued

Jacob Jan Van Rootselaar, the older brother of Tumbler Ridge shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar, has been arrested in Alberta on an outstanding Canada Wide arrest warrant related to a 2024 attempted murder investigation. The 22-year-old faces charges including weapon offences and failure to comply with release conditions. The Tumbler Ridge shooting on February 10 resulted in the deaths of five students and a teacher, with two survivors currently hospitalized, including 12-year-old Maya Gebala, who underwent emergency surgery.
