Brazil’s federal police arrested former President Jair Bolsonaro just days before he was to begin a 27-year prison sentence for leading a coup attempt. Bolsonaro, who had been under house arrest since August, was taken to a police headquarters in Brasilia on Saturday. Convicted in September for his role in the January 2023 riots against President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, he has exhausted all legal appeals. His legal team had argued for home confinement due to health concerns.
