Boy, 12, sparks police search after booking flight and flying solo interstate without parental permission

A 12-year-old boy from Leederville sparked a frantic police search when he booked a ticket and boarded a Jetstar flight to South Australia without his parents’ knowledge. The boy was found safe and well, and it was confirmed that he met the airline’s requirements for independent travel as a secondary school student. Jetstar and Virgin Australia both have policies allowing children aged 12 and over to travel alone on domestic flights with certain documentation.
