Billionaire Gautam Adani charged in New York with massive fraud, bribery scheme

Gautam Adani, chair of India’s Adani Group and one of the world’s richest individuals, was indicted in New York federal court for his alleged involvement in a bribery and fraud scheme worth over $250 million. Along with two executives, Adani is accused of paying bribes to Indian government officials to secure solar energy contracts worth more than $2 billion in profits. The indictment also charges individuals from other companies involved in the scheme with securities fraud conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, and securities fraud.
