The family of Neil Wahpistikwan, who was shot and killed on Big Island Lake Cree Nation, is grappling with shock and grief. The RCMP confirmed the fatal shooting occurred on Tuesday morning, injuring three others, while two armed assailants were last seen on an ATV. Larry Wahpistikwan, Neil’s father, recounted the harrowing moment he arrived at the scene, and family members expressed confusion over the motive behind the attack. The community was placed under lockdown following the incident, which was lifted later in the day as police determined there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
