Biden's total student debt relief passes $183 billion, after he forgives another 150,000 borrowers

In his final days in office, President Joe Biden announced the forgiveness of student debt for over 150,000 borrowers, including those who attended fraudulent schools, disabled individuals, and public service workers. Biden emphasized his commitment to making higher education accessible, forgiving $183.6 billion in debt for more than 5 million federal student loan borrowers during his presidency. Although the Supreme Court blocked a widespread forgiveness plan in 2023, the administration successfully eliminated a significant portion of the country’s outstanding student debt through existing relief programs.
