Tribunal Recommends Dismissal of Edmonton Detective for Leaking Files
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A police disciplinary tribunal has recommended the formal dismissal of suspended Edmonton detective Daniel Behiels for leaking confidential files to CBC News, following his guilty plea to three counts of misconduct. The tribunal ruled that Behiels’s actions, driven by alleged frustrations with police leadership, warranted permanent removal due to insubordination and a breach of confidence. Despite his claims of acting as a whistleblower, the tribunal noted a lack of genuine remorse and rejected arguments about procedural delays. Behiels had been under investigation for his handling of sensitive information related to a case against notorious landlord Abdullah Shah, who was fatally shot in 2022.
