New research indicates that visceral fat, particularly in males, poses a significant risk to heart health, as it is linked to harmful cardiac remodelling patterns. A study involving 2,244 adults revealed that abdominal obesity correlates with greater heart muscle thickening without chamber enlargement, increasing heart failure risk. Statistics Canada reports nearly half of Canadian adults aged 18-79 are affected by abdominal obesity. The findings emphasize the necessity for tailored cardiovascular risk assessments in obesity-related cases.
