A Vancouver Island grocery store, Red Barn Market, has agreed to pay $750,000 to settle a voyeurism class-action lawsuit following a former employee, Matthew Schwabe, secretly filming women in the bathroom and uploading the images online. Schwabe, convicted of voyeurism in 2021, was ordered to surrender all recordings to the plaintiffs, Jennifer Burke and Mallory Colter, who received compensation for the harm caused. The settlement includes payments to identified victims and legal fees. The plaintiffs plan to donate part of their settlement to a charity for additional unidentified victims.
