A British Columbia judge denied Gurinder Pal Singh Bajwa a lighter sentence for drunk driving despite his risk of deportation to India. Bajwa, a permanent resident with a history of 32 driving prohibitions and multiple offenses, was caught with a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit after a crash in May 2022. Judge David Patterson emphasized that reducing the sentence would undermine justice, highlighting Bajwa’s severe alcohol issues and past criminal behavior, leading to a proposed sentence of nine to 12 months in jail and a significant driving prohibition.
