The newly-appointed BBC chairman, Samir Shah, has called for the broadcaster to hire more “northern working-class” voices to increase diversity of thought. Shah, who previously ran the corporation’s current affairs and political programmes, believes the BBC has diversified ethnically but lacks diverse thinkers, particularly from the northern working class. He criticized the BBC’s coverage of migration, suggesting it reflects a metropolitan, liberal bias and lacks balance in addressing concerns of communities impacted by immigration.
