The China-registered barge Yu Zhou Qi Hang lost navigation ability in severe weather off northern Taiwan, leading to abandonment by the captain and rescue of all 17 crew members by Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration. The ship, carrying three gantry cranes, drifted closer to shore due to strong winds from Typhoon Kong-rey and suffered significant damage after accidentally knocking down a quay crane at Keelung Port, resulting in an estimated $9.3m in damages.
