Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda broke the world record at the eDreams Mitja Marato de Barcelona on Sunday, finishing in 56:42 and beating the previous record by 48 seconds. Kiplimo, who is 24 years old, reclaimed the record after it was taken from him last year. He started his competitive running career in 2015 and has since become a two-time world cross country champion and won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
