Marlene Barzeele, a resident of Smeaton, Saskatchewan, is actively helping her community amidst the devastating SHOE wildfire, which has forced evacuations and left many scrambling to protect their homes. After fleeing her own property at Little Bear Lake, she organized donations for those remaining, with the assistance of her daughter and friend, leading to a significant response from the community. Despite the fire’s destruction, including the loss of cabins and campgrounds, there have been some successes in protecting properties, as reported by local residents over the weekend.
